So you are ultimately taking that dream holiday to Mexico, South America, or Europe. Or perhaps you are sending your youngster away for a semester abroad. You have spent many months planning the flights, accommodations, and activities. You even bought the trip cancellation insurance from your travel agent that protects you in case one of your flights gets canceled. But wait! Before you lock up the house and head off to the airfield take a minute to think about what would occur if you or a member of the family were to have an accident or get severally sick while on your holiday. How would you deal with the emergency? If you’re covered by a standard health insurance program, either thru your employer or an individual policy got on your own, you may have some limited foreign travel benefits.

it is a brilliant idea to test with your insurance firm before flying the friendly skies so you know what’s and what’s not covered. Most could be shocked what you check.

Sometimes a normal health insurance program only provides limited foreign travel benefits. The limited coverage which will exist sometimes only is applicable to true emergency care. Without a supplemental Foreign Health Travel Insurance policy, if you’ve got an emergency while traveling outside the U.S, you take on the following responsibilities by yourself : * Finding a facility and a professional ( hopefully ) doctor to treat you * Paying for the services rendered at the time of the event so you may be discharged * Picking up all x-rays, chart notes and supporting info about your case * Translating all the info into English ( if required ) * when you have returned to the U.S, filling out a claim form and submitting it to your first insurer * Waiting to discover if your insurance corporation decides your case was a real emergency * presuming the claim is decided in your favor, accepting their out-of-network repayment Also, most plans are less than clear about how, or maybe if, air evacuation and air ambulance services are covered. The fact is normal health insurance policies are not built to provide total foreign travel coverage. There’s a better way! Yes, you know it.

Buying a supplemental total Foreign Health Travel Insurance policy is the only way to guard you and your folks in the event of a medical or health-related emergency while journeying abroad. Here are a couple of the benefits of purchasing such a policy : * If something occurs you’ve got a global toll free number to call for help * The person on the other end of the phone helps you find the closest pre-qualified, English-speaking doctor in your destination. They’re your advocate. * All claims and payments for provided services travel between the foreign supplier and the Foreign Health Travel insurance firm. You’re still in charge of any deductible amount related to your intention.

* Benefits are assured and obviously outlined for air and medical evacuation to the closest pre-qualified, English-speaking treatment facility, and for repatriation of remains. * Bedside visits are included in some plans.

If you’re anticipated to be in a hospital for over a week a limited dollar value is paid towards a chum or member of the family’s airfare so they can come support you * Access to a foreign over the counter drug interpretation service. The same drugs are given different names all around the planet.

This kind of service helps you find precisely what you want. * Most policies also provide help and limited money repayment for re-issuance of lost passports, flight tickets, and replacing of lost luggage So how much does a complete Foreign Health Travel Insurance policy cost? Likely a load less than you believe. Relying on the level of coverage selected, premiums can range between about $1 each day and up. Most plans offer you a range of deductible, sometimes anywhere from zero to $500 per plan benefit period, and a selection of the maximum benefit amount, sometimes anywhere between $50,000 and $1,000,000. Coverage can be bought for a couple of days up to six months or longer. I believe strongly in buying a supplemental Foreign Health Travel Insurance policy before leaving on your holiday not only as it’s my job as an independent insurance broker to provide these policies but because in 2007 while on a visit to Africa I had the chance to use my policy.
